Here you may apply for the Royal Historical Society Research Support Grant.
The Royal Historical Society runs an active annual programme of research grants for historians at all career stages.
These awards include the Open Research Support Grant offering awards of either £500 or £1,000 to support historians without access to research funding to visit archives, historical sites, conduct interviews, and to attend conferences.
Applications for Open Research Support Grants are assessed in March and September of each year.
Please note that as applications are received throughout the year the specific deadline are published upon the respective page of the Society website below. Please use this information to schedule your application rather than the dates displayed within this application platform.
Please also note the criteria for eligibility for this award, including current active membership. Applications submitted not supported by current active membership will be disqualified.
The Royal Historical Society seeks to use its limited funds to make the greatest impact upon the historian community, by prioritising awards to those with greatest need. In making your application, you are encouraged to ensure you provide sufficient detail to enable those in the awarding panel to ascertain why access to these funds is necessary for you. We will also ask for an honest assessment of alternative funds available to you, via your institution. Access to alternative funds will not invalidate your submission, but will contribute towards the assessment of your application and may result in an award of a different value being made if successful.
You will also be asked to upload a current version of your CV following the completion of this applications form. You may also request an academic reference in support of your application directly from within this portal, however this is not a compulsory requirement for consideration for this award.
