Description

In accordance with By-law XXI, Fellows of the Royal Historical Society are invited to put forward their nomination for the role of Vice President. All applicants must be Fellows of the Royal Historical Society and based in the UK. Nominations must be supported by two referees, at least one of whom is an Ordinary, Retired or Emeritus Fellow of the Society. The Society desires that the membership of its Council be fully representative of the community of historians in the United Kingdom.  

As per the Society's By-Laws, all 'Officer' level positions are appointed by the Council directly.

The successful applicant will become an Officer and Trustee of the Royal Historical Society. Councillors are expected to attend all or most of the five annual Council meetings to attend at least one of the Society’s regional visits or symposia; to serve on one or more committee and to assist the Society in other ways as needed. Council and most committee meetings are held on Fridays and take the form of in-person or online sessions; in-person meetings take place at the Society’s office at University College London. Expenses for travel and accommodation are reimbursed by the Society.
